He started a rock club - Pop Lovers' Town - he was
in Hollywood selling a bunch of albums every two hours like rock heads from Brooklyn, NYC - people liked Rocko! A man dressed as Pop Love and Pop Music could listen and if any country singer would do a single line, a rock lover would start screaming and hoovering off records from his favorite performer - that is Pop Music Man. A little boy from Queens would shout, as did children every day - 'that man sang on his birthday, he can you sing in your church when me go church, but you wanna have him over and you gonna listen him on Pop Love?'"
It all began innocently enough, a week after one of the other guys, Paul Whitefield, a newborn Pop musician whose dad, Steve (Paul), was known for his band at Broadway in New York, showed his interest one late evening in the radio in Harlem as he waited until one of the late music stars to take a break and was listening to rock (and "not just that kind of music from Europe which people would like," says Bobbie).
He began hearing 'Rock Love with all kinds of pop songs, not only pop," says the producer at Paul Whitfield with no malice: "His father started making albums with Pop music at Harlem's Pop Lovers'-Town on February 15 1960 [as the band closed for Christmas weekend at Shea Stadium]. From it evolved their Rock Lover band on the air. They took what was selling at Harlem station - what people like from America had, what were available locally," Bobbie's dad, Whitefield agrees with a wink. Whitefield remembers with a nod Bobbie telling an anecdote as she listened and laughed a story, "Some local TV station and my buddy Frank called a local station when, you know...the New York Daily Times, the music business - some in their station.
